For this ARC 101 project, our class was challenged to create a mask based on a theme of our choice. I chose Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” as my inspiration because I wanted to create something glamorous, feminine, and eye-catching.
I used pearls and rhinestones across the front of the mask to create a sparkling, diamond-like look. I also draped pink silk fabric behind the mask to add softness and bring more of the glamorous feel of the theme into the overall design.
The project gave me the opportunity to experiment with materials, texture, color, and how an idea or theme can be translated into a physical design.
